My daughters Betta (Blue. short for Blue-octane)), is very active. I love his color, deep blue, with a vibrant red in his tail. Looks like fire when the light catches him! His tail is very beautiful & full, like a giant fan!

He has quite the personality! He is very curious. When we feed him (always from the same side of the tank); he is always right there! Usually coming right to the surface close to the spot where fingers drop in the pellets! When we take pictures of him, he will swim right in front of the camera,. Many times just floating there watching us as much as we are watching him! He is not shy!

I love to watch him make bubble nests, he goes crazy swimming back & forth. Sometimes he even covers most of the edges of the entire 10 gallon tank! (Busy fellow!)
He has a cave that has an entrance & a window...he likes to hide there a lot, also going in & out. He always catches the "jet stream"...riding the "flow" of the water filter is a favorite past-time of his! Body surfing , fish style!
My daughter calls him her "crazy" fish! He seems like hes having a blast!

I got my betta to liven up my dorm room. I thought he'd be goldfishy and swim around lazily all the time. I was surprised to find he had quite a personality! I'd have to say that my favourite thing about him is the way he manages to constantly surprise me, even though he's just a fish. The day I took him home it was night-time and I thought he was blue, but when the sun came in the next morning, he was actually bright purple! I thought only small children liked to keep fish, but I realized that I'm very attached to Arby. I'll be sad if something happens to him.

Yes! great info we have been waiting for! but, it is never a good idea to pour too much of the old water back in a fully changed tank (NOTE FULLY 100% changed) as though you could be spreading harmful ich and other disease that may have gotten into your tank without you knowin it. I recommend forming a dam with a spatula with holes and pouring some of the water out (protecting your betta with the spatula dam, your little friend will naturally swim away from the outgoing water (normally) just at the last millisecond pour him in. He will be fine (low/lower stress) and will love his new water (assuming you follow the above posts GREAT advice.

Here is another relatively new food that I've added to my bettas' diet rotation: Seachem NutriDiet Naturals - fly larvae.

My bettas LOVE this food, turning into little sharks when it's offered! Using a pair of tweezers, I wiggle one of the larvae in front of the betta's face and he readily gulps it down. Two to three larvae make a decent meal for the average-sized male betta.

Ingredients: Whole fly larvae (Musca domestica). Not intended for human consumption.

Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude Protein
16.7% min
Crude Fat
5.7% min
Crude Fiber
0.8% max
Crude Ash
2.1% max
Moisture Content
75.7% max

My local PetSmarts carry all four varieties: fly larvae, meal worms, fish eggs shrimp.

Here is a link to these products on Drs. Foster & SMith, a site that usually provides complete ingredient and nutritional information:

i love that i know my fish so well like the fact that when i feed him i have to leave the room. if i stay in the room he won't eat. and that when he goes to the bottom of the fish tank he's nervous. when i first got him i was in the car and he would be at the bottom for the whole time. AND H IS SO PRETTY!! I LOVE HIM

i have a male betta in a tank with 2 dwarf frogs, 5 neon tetras and a silver tip shark. The only problem i had was once my dog scared the shark, and the shark slammed into a tetra and killed it.
