One of the things I appreciate most about bettas is they’re more interactive than other types of tropical fish I’ve had. If you come up to their tank, bettas are more curious and territorial in nature so they’ll follow your finger or give you a flare, whereas other fish typically get frightened and may swim away.
What’s your favorite thing about bettas? Maybe it’s the way they look, act, swim, or flare?

1i love that i know my fish so well like the fact that when i feed him i have to leave the room. if i stay in the room he won’t eat. and that when he goes to the bottom of the fish tank he’s nervous. when i first got him i was in the car and he would be at the bottom for the whole time. AND H IS SO PRETTY!! I LOVE HIM

2I got my betta to liven up my dorm room. I thought he’d be goldfishy and swim around lazily all the time. I was surprised to find he had quite a personality! I’d have to say that my favourite thing about him is the way he manages to constantly surprise me, even though he’s just a fish. The day I took him home it was night-time and I thought he was blue, but when the sun came in the next morning, he was actually bright purple! I thought only small children liked to keep fish, but I realized that I’m very attached to Arby. I’ll be sad if something happens to him.

4My daughters Betta (Blue. short for Blue-octane)), is very active. I love his color, deep blue, with a vibrant red in his tail. Looks like fire when the light catches him! His tail is very beautiful & full, like a giant fan!
He has quite the personality! He is very curious. When we feed him (always from the same side of the tank); he is always right there! Usually coming right to the surface close to the spot where fingers drop in the pellets! When we take pictures of him, he will swim right in front of the camera,. Many times just floating there watching us as much as we are watching him! He is not shy!
I love to watch him make bubble nests, he goes crazy swimming back & forth. Sometimes he even covers most of the edges of the entire 10 gallon tank! (Busy fellow!)
He has a cave that has an entrance & a window…he likes to hide there a lot, also going in & out. He always catches the “jet stream”…riding the “flow” of the water filter is a favorite past-time of his! Body surfing , fish style!
My daughter calls him her “crazy” fish! He seems like hes having a blast!

8My favorite thing about Bettas are how interactive and beautiful they are. My betta, Comet is a great pet. I recently put Java Fern in his tank and the sizes of his bubble nests have increased! Everytime I go up to his tank, he quickly swims over to me and greets me with his “feed-me dance.”
I always feel bad when I have to destroy his lovely bubble nests when I have to clean his tank.

11My betta’s name is Tsumi. A random name but whatever. He’s my first betta. He’s really beautiful and I love the colours. And whenever I feel really sad he always comforts me by blowing a bubble nest. He also loves to flare at his neighbour, Skyro, my sister’s betta fish. Bettas are sooo cool. ^.^

12I was recenlty given a Crowntail Betta as a gift. I joked about how “rough” he looked, because I was only familiar with the typical Veil Tail Betta. It looked like he had survived a trip through a shredder or something. About a week after I got him I began learning what he needed in his bowl as far as habitat. As soon as I gave him some plants to escape to and some conditioner for his water, he started strutting around his bowl and really showed off how beautiful the Crowntail can be. Rusty is blue, tipped with red, and has a rusty head and face. (Thus the name.) What I once thought made him look unappealing, now is most endearing. That, and his tendency to hide-and-seek in his new plants.

13I own two, I love them because they have personality. They know how to communicate with me, when they dance when they are hungry. And want to be fed! They absolutely will tell you when he is not happy with you. They are obviously happy when I clean their tanks. They would not be afraid of my hand and brush their tail on me.
Oliver is metallic blue with some red on his fins. Oscar is gorgeous red Crowntail tipped with white.

15I just bought a little female betta in June. I named her Aiko because it means beloved one or beloved friend in Japenese. She is absolutely beautiful! When I took her home it was night time so she looked a dark indigo color. The next morning when I woke up she looked a gorgeous violet color in the sun.
The thing I love most about her is she has so much personality. When she is near the top of the water, she wants fed. When she is near the bottom of her tank she is either bored or sleepy. And the best part is, I can keep her in my other tank that is full of neon tetras and red platies. She doesn’t get aggressive with them. She is a very laid back betta.

16I have a betta named Fish. He was given to me by one of my co-workers who didn’t want to transport him on her move out of state. I have to say, I fell in love with this little guy. He has such a fun personalty and he is always cracking me up at work. I love how when I get close to his tank he swims over and his side fins go crazy or when I come into work he gets so excited b/c he knows he’s going to be fed. I also like how he sometimes sleeps in/on his plant. Bettas really are such a great pet!

17My betta fish, River, is sooo gorgeous and has such personality. He’s a bit more shy (but less picky) then my last betta who was so picky and would flare at everything, including his food. When you put a mirror or object in front of his tank, River wouldl just stare at it then back away. He’s turquoise with bright red fins. Before I saw and got one of these, I never knew such a fish could be so pretty, inexpensive and easy to raise. I love my little betta!

18Sashimi was unexpected. I went with my brother to get snake food and he caught my eye. I left and couldn’t stop thinking about him. It was love at first sight… I just had to have him. From the moment I brought him home he knew I had rescued him from his tiny betta bowl. He’s like a puppy in water. He’s not even afraid when I put my hand in his bowl to scoop him up. Betta’s are tops!

22I have two bettas. Houdini (aka “Fishy”) keeps me company at work. He’s blue and red and always greets me when I come in. I actually look forward to going to work now. He’s a piggy - always begging for food and he follows my finger around his 2.5 gallon cracker jar. When I first got him, he was very lethargic but adding a mini heater and filter have really helped his activity level - and his personality is now shining through.
Mario is my home fish. When I first rescued him from the pet store (he was in a plastic petrie dish fermenting in his poop) I thought he was white with red tips on his fins. Turns out he’s flesh colored. He has a little curl on his top fin. He has adjusted well to his new environment. He’s “cuddly”. He gets as close to me as he possibly can - putting himself right up against the glass when I talk to him (yes - I talk to them both). He also does a happy dance around the tank when I feed him.
It’s funny - I grew up in a house full of fish tanks but I’ve never encountered a species that connects so well with humans - and shows so much personality. It’s kinda freaky. Bettas are really cool fish.

23I bought a male betta at walmart in June. He was in a tiny little cup and he looked like he was dead. I brought him home and put him in to a 2.5 gallon fish tank and he perked up immediately. When i come close to the tank he comes to the glass and stares at me and begs for food. He builds HUGE bubble nests and plays in his hidey holes all the time.

24i love their looks and puppyish personalities.i also love their beautiful fins and how they know when they’re pampered.i have three of the little boogers in a 20 gal with separators,if i touch the top of the tank they all stop and let thier fins droop as they concentrate on looking up and hoping ill feed them for a second time that day. i got them all from a very knowledgeable and caring lps where they all had little glass bowls and were very active. I<3 BETTA FISH :]

26Betta fish are better than any other fish I have ever had. My first betta fish, pointy, was the cutest crowntail betta. In the pet store, he stared at me with his little eyes and started to do a wiggle dance (he didn’t even know me!). I was able to keep him for 6 months
. My favorite thing about bettas is their big personalities. They differ between which betta you have. After I lost pointy I have not ever gotten another betta. In about a week or two I should be getting another one and I am very excited. I hope to gain another relationship with a healthy, happy betta!!

28I love my betta Fuego so much than I would’ve thought! He has very long, flowing firey red fins and everytime it’s his feeding time i tap the glass 3 times on his tank and he swims to the top
I never thought fish could be so interactive! He’s housed alone in a 10 gallon tank with a filter (planning to buy a heater) so far his light is his heater. He has a little chinese hidey house that he loves
He likes to go by the filter current and swim with it
He’s so cute. I’ve never been so attached to a fish before! Who knew they could have so much personality? This is my new found hobby! He makes bubble nests all the time and i have yet to see him in the act. I love how they’re so graceful and have a personality. I was thinking about getting a goldfish before this but I changed my mind! I <3 Fuegooooo.

29I absolutely adore my Crowntail Betta, DiNozzo (named after Tony DiNozzo from NCIS). I do have another pet, a dog; I got Champ after my two first pet Betta fishes, Mikey and Min, passed away.
What inspired me to get another fish is my friend Yvette*. She has a Betta fish, Marco, that she keeps in a vase with bamboo, and he has been alive for over a year. She explained to me about how to care for a Betta in a vase with a live plant, and reffered me to an article on this site for further details.
I love how intelligent DiNozzo is. He always hides in his bamboo when it’s time for me to feed him, and he won’t eat his food until I point to him like, “I found you!” It’s the cutest thing.
I also love how beautiful and graceful he is. When he swims, it’s like he’s just floating; he’s like a gazelle on land, only he’s in the water. Also, when it’s sort of dim in the room he is a gorgeous navy blue, but when it’s bright he turns this bright, exotic, firey red.
He also keeps me company. He sits on my desk while I work, and sometimes when I get bored I just play with him, and it just totally clears my head.
All in all, I’m really glad that I gave Betta fish another try. I am really happy with both Champ and DiNozzo.

30I have a beautiful Veil Tail Betta named Galahad. He’s dark blue with light blue fins, and I’ve had him for a year and a half, longer than I’ve had any other fish.
He is the perfect pet fish. What I love is when he seems to follow me around the house. Wherever I go , he’s always on that side of the bowl watching me and doing little dances. I also love to see him flare at his reflection when I put a mirror next to his bowl.
I read about someone who had their Betta for three years. I have no idea how long I may have Galahad, but I’m taking good care of him and he is such a blessing, this dear little Betta.

31I’m extremely excited to say that I just got my first veil tail betta today. I’ve named him Turbo! He’s a beautiful blue with red streaks through his tail! I named him Turbo because of how quickly he seems to have adapted to his new home.
So far, one of my favourite things about him is how curious he is. He’s been home for almost 5 hours and he’s still swimming around and exploring!! He keeps poking at the plants and the little castle in the bowl, and he loves the camera already! I look forward to more good times and fun moments with my new friend <33

32My first betta sunset was a beautiful orange color with powder green streaks on his dorsel and tail and was very docil, he never bothered the dory cats, but he developed a tumor and died on October 29. so, I bought a male betta one week later from petco and in two weeks his true personality came out. He flairs and picks on the cory cats from time to time chasing them, so, i named him red bull. He is a beautiful red betta with powder green streaks and a royal blue over a dark reddish brown body. his fins are so full & long, they look like a large japanese fan. he does his tail shimmy every time i walk in the room and he watches me type on my computer, then he frantically swims back ‘n’ forth as if he is saying pay attention to me, hello, here i am.. just love the individual personalities.

34I love my betta, mufasa, because of how unique he is! He is orange and has a great personality. When I come near his tank he swims as close to where I am possible and just watches me. And when I brush my hair infront of him for some reason he swishes back and forth really fast. It’s so cute lol

35I have a male betta named Mardi Gras. He is gold with blue eyes, and dark red fins with brilliant metallic blue streaks on the fins. He’s the most colorful betta I’ve ever seen! I keep him on my desk by my computer so I can interact with him while I’m working. Sometimes I’ll look over at him and he’ll just be floating there staring at me. Then when he sees me look, he’ll slowly flare his gills. He loves to “play fight” and he makes me laugh all the time!

39I trained my Betta she knows that three light taps means feeding time,
She jumps for food a goes through a hoop.
I am teaching her to do something I call the clock dance.
BUT what I love about my Betta is her acute personalty ‘
and how her dorsal fin flare of when she is curious about something.
So cute
and oh how I am attached near obsession. =D

40Presently, i have 5 bettas. which are male as follows…Winston a red veil tail, Chester a white and blue crown tail, Yukon a yellow veil tail, Sassy a blue female betta and lastly, Penny a red crown tail female. Having more than one is the best ! Each one has their one distinct personality! In short , all the males are curious and dance around a lot especially at feeding time. The only two calm ones I have are Chester and Sassy. To add, the more the better and your enjoyment of them will grow!
