I’m a first time betta owner…I just wanted to know how much light a betta needs during the day because at the moment I am staying in a basement apartment and the tank I got comes with a light and filter and air pump. Any recommendations??
Leaving the light on for most of the day should be fine, however it’s best to give bettas some dark resting time as well, so perhaps turn the light off when you go to sleep each night. You can even buy a simple timer outlet switch and set your light to turn on or off at set hour intervals on its own.
If you keep live aquatic plants in your tank, make sure to research the light requirements to keep them thriving, and adjust accordingly.
Fish fact: bettas and other tropical fish don’t have eyelids. That’s part of the reason they tend to go to sleep so quickly once they’re in a dark space. And why it’s favorable if you give them some “night” time with darkness.
